The narrator asks the girl why she is late, and the girl replies that she has come to see him. The narrator tells the girl that he has been playing a joke on her, and she has agreed to it. The girl then tells the story of how she was upset when she found out that the joke was a joke, and transferred to a different school. She asks the narrator where he is going, and he tells her that he is running away from her. She tells him that she lost her shoe while running, and that she is afraid that the man is coming after her. He apologizes, and says that if what the girl said made her uncomfortable, he apologizes. He says that he still hates to understand what it is like to be in love, but that he will now compete with her for whatever she wants.
