About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn the story of the two former divine generals, em>Mekira and /em> a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/exec-obidos.html" target="_blank">Mekira/a>, and his former lover, the goddess of light, Lady Mariane. The two former generals were very similar in intellect, strength, and martial abilities, but one thing separated them: they believed that power should be used only for its own sake, not for the service of justice. The other generals believed that this was true, but mekira believed that only power exists for itself, nothing more, and thus he sought even greater power. He was unable to take any action on his own during a battle with moma, one of her demon corps. He fled the battle, hid at Mount Sumeru, and was incapable of taking action himself during the battle. He saw the others as faithful servants, and could only obey their commands. When the battle was over, the two generals quarreled about whether or not they should kill the demons. Mekira had originally planned to kill the entire demon corps, but when Mariane interceded, they spared the entire group. This rift between them caused Mariane to withdraw from him, and she soon fell in love with zan. She soon found herself attracted to him. He betrayed Mariane, and he lost sight of the duty and beliefs of being a divine general. Mariane marshalled her
