The next morning, the narrator wakes up to find that the ghost of Quinan has returned. He's not sure if it's Quinan's ghost or someone else's, but he's pretty sure it is. The narrator swears that he doesn't know who the ghost is, but then he hears someone crying in the hallway and realizes that the girl's crying is because she's been screaming too loudly.
