About This Chapter
The king is in a bad mood. He wants to know what's wrong with his wife. He's worried that she's trying to get him to marry her daughter. The king tells the queen that he can't tell her what to do right now. He says he's going to go back to the palace and think things over. The queen says she'll think it over and then come back and talk to the king. She doesn't want the king to marry his daughter, she says, because it's the duty of a court lady to do so. She's not going to let the king marry a queen who's already married to someone else. She wants to marry the king's daughter, not the queen's. She tells the king that he should go back and find a new concubine for himself. He tells her that he'll probably be able to eat and drink for a couple of days, but that she shouldn't worry about that. She says she wishes she could stay with her, but she sneaked into the palace secretly, so she won't have to stay with the queen. She asks the queen not to leave her alone for the next few days, and she says she wants to see her.
