The next morning, the witch is shocked to learn that the contractor is related to the child. She asks the boy if he cried often as a child, and if he was hostile to the contractor because he thought he was being taken away from him by the dragon. The boy replies that he did cry often because he did not like cats, and that he was afraid that the dragon was taking him away from his father. The witch wonders why she did not sleep well the night before, and the boy tells her that he has not had breakfast yet. She tells him that she has made breakfast for him before, but that he is a visitor, and it is improper for him to do so.
