About This Chapter
The scene opens in the dressing room of the theater. The curtain rises, and the audience enters. The narrator tells us that he's all ears in the room. He's not there, and he doesn't know what's going on. He tells the audience that he wasn't at the theater that night, and that he didn't have anything to do with what was said. He asks the audience to get out of the room, because the company isn't throwing money at him to make a profit. He says that stars are subject to criticism from the general public, and being an agent means that you're a bridge between the stars and the public. He also says that he was caught in "weeds" and needs time to "clean up" . He wants to apologize to her for her sins, but she won't listen to him. She tells him that she taught him how to be strong, and this method works for him. He compares her to a charm, and tells her that he used this method when he first started in the business. This method worked for him, because he was too reckless, but now he uses it because it works for her, too. She says that she's very lucky to have him by her side, and she wants to help him with his troubles. She asks why wu feng can't admit that he helped save her life, but wu says that feng is afraid that "walls have ears" , so he'll have to lie.
