The Governess is pleased to see that the young man is wearing clothes that are too small for her. She feels touched by the man's suit, and she asks him to take off his shirt and put on his underpants. He does so, and the Governess wonders how he could be so careless. She then asks him why he does not put his clothes into the washing machine, and he replies that it is more hygienic to wash by hand. She realizes that this is the first time she has learned to wash her own clothes. She decides that she will wash them herself, and then she will hang them out in the hallway.
