The novel opens with a description of the future of mankind, which is 1000 years ahead of the present. During this time period, humanity was able to accomplish great things, but this was because of the excessive consumption of emotions, which was considered to be a hindrance to advancement. The novel ends with the introduction of the protagonist, who introduces himself as "kang suhun" .
