The Governess tells Lockwood that she will not lay a finger on him until he confesses his feelings for her. Lockwood tells her that the two families have invited Lockwood to their wedding. Lockwood says that he will probably reject them again. Lockwood then asks if the couple has decided on the date for the wedding. He says that they have postponed the wedding indefinitely because they want to meet each other more often. Lockwood wonders if they have the courage to spend their lives with someone who does not fit in with them. He wonders if she has the same courage as he did when he was a young boy. Lockwood thinks that it is wrong to care so much about other people's opinions.
