About This Chapter
In this chapter, the narrator tries to explain why Kim Jung-woo is in the U.S., and why his sister, Jung Eun-hye, has come to America. The narrator explains that Kim's brother, Kim Jong-woo, is in a bad mood, and that his half-brother, Kim Ju-ho, has arrived in America to try to calm him down. He lost out to his cousin for the position of chairman of the company, and now he is angry with himself for not being able to control his father. He says that if he had more money, he would buy the entire firm instead of bits and pieces of stocks. He tells Lee to not worry too much about Kim, because it is not easy for him to deal with the situation. He adds that he would never let his grandson enter the house, because his grandmother would not allow him to do so. Lee tells the narrator that Kim is angry at him for not stopping his mother's abuse of his wife, and he says that Kim didn't do anything to stop his wife from abusing his children. He turns a blind eye when his new wife abuses his children, claiming that he is too busy. He doesn't want to be a father, he says, and won't ask the narrator to call him dad. He also says that the half-sister of Kim, Junghwaryeon, is the daughter of Kim. She drugged Kim, who drank the drugged liquor, and then told a friend that he was going to kill himself. Lee says that it is more shocking for Kim to hear this than for his father to plot the murder of
