It's the owner of the antique shop who's there, and he's hiding in his workshop. The shop owner tells the narrator that it's his workshop, and the narrator is shocked. He's already checked it out a few times, but he can't figure out what the man is trying to do with the sachet of empress that the woman brought with her. The narrator is so confused that he starts to sound like a broken record. The man smells good, the woman is embarrassed, and she doesn't know what to make of it all. She's not sure what to do, so the narrator tells her that he can tell the owner and cancel the deal, but that she knows too much to do that now. She tells him that since she's been stuying the sachet her whole life, she must know what happens to the people who know it.
