About This Chapter
This scene opens with a description of the eclipse of the Temple of the Djinn, which marks the end of King Leeph's reign and the beginning of the reign of his son, the puppet ruler of the kingdom of tartarus. Leeph is in crisis as he fumbles around in the dark in search of signs and revelations. The puppet ruler, gloh, has been happy all this time, and he welcomes the day of truce as a day of feasting and gift giving. He tells his daughter that the war is his brother's, and that it is wrong for him to want to end it. He says that they have been hitting "dead ends" for weeks, and now they are ready to "raise hell" and "party hard." He tells her that they will go to the parade of the djinn temple, the moon room, where they will collect themselves and "know thyself" . He asks his daughter if she wants him to join them at the parade, and she says that she does, but that she wants to go as far away as she can. She tells him that he is welcome to join her at baxna, but he should not go, as he brings out "the worst in people." He says he raised his hands in prayer, and the gods placed "a thunderbolt --s000 fearless" in his hands. He feels that he has been brought to this place to kill him, but the universe is not "haphazard," and he is not allowed to build a new cloak to trap the people. He is disappointed that he did not kill his mother, and says that his heart is full of vengeance, as dark as his own.
