About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a soliloquy by Lorry, in which he laments the fact that he has not been able to bring himself to leave the castle. He says that if he had, he would have gone back to his mother's side of the family, but that now that he is a guardian, he will not be able to do so. Lorry says that he does not know what to do with his new position, and he wonders if the queen is as crazy as Lorry thinks she is. He wonders if she will turn her brother against everything Lorry cares about, but Lorry assures him that she will not hurt him. He asks Lorry where his mother is, and Lorry tells her that he will be there to greet her father, Lorry's favorite, when he returns from the war. Lory says that they are twins, and that they share the same womb, and they will never be separated. He tells Lorry that he cannot escape from the castle, because there is no way to escape the "irredeemable" bond between them.
