About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a soliloquy by rob Guillory, in which he tells his son that he'll be okay. He also tells him not to worry about his sister, who's pregnant. The chapter ends with a description of the "haunted man" . The narrator tells us that the man was found thirty minutes later, somewhere off the Vermilion River . It turns out that the handwriting on the sign is the same as it was before, and that it's the same private property as it is now. It's not clear who the man is, but the narrator says he's found the man's family, and they've found a lot of secrets. He's just waiting for his sister to come home, and he asks about the "whole lotta weeds" springing up around the farm. He doesn't know how to get in the car, so he asks for the key codes to unlock the car. He asks the boys to remember to torture him first, but they don't seem to understand him. He tells them that he thought they were the man in the sign, but then he realizes that they're actually the pastor and his wife, who have been praying for him and his family every day. They've been trying to come by, but haven't been able to because of the ruckus they heard in the church. The pastor says that he heard the two men reconciled, but that he can't figure out how the girl got into recess detention. The doctor tells the narrator that he remembers all his patients, and there's "something wrong" with him.
