In this chapter, we learn that the big girls are planning to kill the jacks. They're worried that if they don't do so, they'll be eaten alive by the monsters. The narrator explains that he's grown too big to be a monster, but he still enjoys playing with the other big girls. He's worried that they're going to kill him, too. He also worries that if he doesn't kill them, he'll end up like his mom, who didn't have the guts to fight back against the monster.
