In this chapter, we are introduced to Coyarie and his men, who have arrived at the palace. They are greeted by a tap on the door, followed by the sound of an explosion. The captain asks what is going on, and Gaston tells him that he is under arrest for theft. He tells Gaston that he should surrender and that he will be easier to arrest if he does so. Everyone runs, and everyone coughs.
