The chapter opens with a soliloquy in which the narrator laments the fact that his son has been killed while he is away. He tells the story of his father's mistreatment by his father, who was right to do so. The narrator explains that the reason for the killing was to create a "decent excuse" to kill the young man. The young man, however, has awakened his bloodline and is now able to fight back. He asks the young master why he should wait until he and jiang yang return. He says that jiang ding does not know who did the deed, so he will go after him first
