About This Chapter
The narrator asks his wife what club she's going to join, and she tells him that she'll be joining the badminton team. The narrator is shocked, because he never thought there would be a girl so cute at school. He's even more shocked when he realizes that the girl is going to be the manager of the school's volley-ball team. He doesn't want to be a part of the team that badly, he says, and he's not going to accept it. He tells his wife that if she wants to change, he can't do anything to stop her. He says that she will come back to the school having grown from both the good and the bad experiences, and that he'll make her even more money by writing a book about it. This is all very nice of him, but the narrator is worried that he looks like the guy who's being fired for not finding enough new members to replace him as the team's captain. He wants to be able to stay on as the captain if he can find eleven new members. He thinks that's a good idea, because if he finds eleven new guys, he won't have to go back to school as a teacher. He also thinks that he can show up at the school and be a jerk to the headmaster if he gets more than eleven new recruits. He signs up for the boys' volleyball team two weeks later.
