This chapter opens with a description of a woman who has been missing for several days. The woman's name is Gosho, and she is a servant of Gosho. She has not been seen for eight days. She begs the servants to return her to her, but they refuse to do so. The servant tells her that they have to hurry, because Shurike has tried to kill Gosho before, and he has killed several others, too. He tells the servant that he is sorry for the pain he has caused the servant, and that he looks forward to working together with him in the future. When the servant asks where Gosho is, he is told that he has gone to the police station to file a missing person's report. He then asks the servant to bring Gosho back to his house.
