About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a conversation between the Governess and her Governess's son. The Governess asks her son why he has run away, and the boy replies that he wants to try to save money for college. He asks his father to tell his adoptive father that Kikuhara will be taking care of him, but the father says that he doesn't think it's a good idea. He says that they work together with the police to wipe out "the devils" , and that he's not worried about that. He tells his son that he should tell his mother that he will be staying with her, but that he shouldn't invite his school friends over. He also tells his father that he won't be using his room as much as he used to. He's worried that his mother will be jealous of his new roommate, and he wants her to tell her that he loves her. The father tells him that he has never treated her like a criminal, and asks him to tell him why he is now living with him. The girl says that she loves him too, and she's surprised that he didn't tell her why he was living with her. She says that if he had been a teenager, she would have said that he was too tall for her, and now that he is taller, she thinks that he looks a bit older than he is. She asks him if he can walk with her in the dark. The boy says that his father told him to stay by her side, and then he feels like he is a "important new to me" .
