It's December, and the narrator tells us that he's ten years old. He's just learned the "truth about life" , and that's when he learned that his dad is a "life-killing pain" . The narrator is all, "Dude, you're too high to do this!" . But then he realizes that the kid's throwing himself off a cliff, and he realizes he'll be okay. The doctor tells him that the injury is not life-threatening, but the kid needs more tests to figure out what's wrong with his arm. He doesn't have any pain, the doctor says, but he might not be able to respond appropriately to an accident, which could lead to a serious injury. So the doctor tells the boy that he needs to go see the doctor right away, because the kid has a "congenital insensivity" to pain, which means he won't respond appropriately in an accident. But the doctor points out that this isn't the first time that this has happened to a kid, and it's hard to believe that the doctor didn't notice it from the beginning. The boy says that he and his dad were supposed to meet the doctor at two o'clock, but that they're not going to go because they've been playing outside, and they don't want to be seen by the doctor.
