About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's gotten permission from Henry to do a lot of things. He wants to go to Henry's house and ask for his permission to marry him. Henry is so cruel that he won't let him go. The narrator is so happy that he can't believe that he is falling for Henry even deeper than he already was. He asks where his money comes from, and the narrator tells him that his father was a giant oil company owner. He also tells the narrator that the land that he bought also had some oil in it, so it's all hiss if he becomes his son. He's not sure if he wants to become his father's son or not, but he does want to visit the girls. He tells the girls that he doesn't really want to be their son, but that he needs money to start a school for flood victims in the village. He says that the man who founded the school is a really bad man, and that he should give the flood victims scholarships so that they can go to the school. He then goes on to say that the church that Henry built was abandoned by the people who built it, and he thinks he can use the money to build a new school for the poor. Henry says that's the wrong thing to do, but the narrator points out that the rich man who built the church was also the chairman of the school board, and this is why the school was abandoned in the first place.
