About This Chapter
The chapter opens with Henry and Riley's conversation. Henry asks Riley if she'd like to have dinner with him. Riley says no, and Henry says that they can't have dinner in the parlor because Riley is in bed. Henry tells Riley to close her eyes and not to open her eyes. He tells her that he's in love with her, and that he wants to do everything for her. He says that he doesn't expect Riley to reject him, but that she's not going to be his son. He also tells her about how he opened a train track for Riley, and how he spent money on it, even though he thinks it'll be finished by the time Riley graduates from college. Riley asks Henry if he means to build new houses for victims of the tornado. Henry says he'll do that, too, and Riley says that she raised her son well. She asks Henry to talk about his adoption, and he says that's fine, but he'd rather talk about the shoes he stole from Riley when he was a kid. Riley feels sad that her baby is gone, and she feels like she shouldn't go through with it.
