The chapter opens with a description of a long time ago, when the sun was rising and the moon was setting. The narrator explains that he was born in the direction of the sun, so that when his father came he would be an albino and his mother an albino. His father could not promise to keep that promise, so the murmur of his father's voice came onto his mother and he, who had lost the protection of the promise.
