The next morning, the vanharts wake up in their hotel room. They're happy to be reunited with the women they used to meet when they were in Paris, and they're glad to be able to spend some time together again. They talk about how much they miss each other, and how they haven't seen each other in a long time. The narrator tells us that he's been avoiding the subject of the van's death ever since he heard about it. He says that he can't talk about it until he has something important to tell him, and he promises to tell the narrator as soon as he leaves the hotel.
