About This Chapter
The Secret Service agent tells the reader that he's here because he was sent by Monsieur Oberon to ask the Secret Service to let him into his office so that he could help him find some "important" information. He tells us that he has heard rumors that the man has been kidnapped and is being held ransomed. He says that the secret agent has been searching for the man for the past few weeks, but has not been able to find him. The secret agent says that he can't find the man's keycard in his own apartment, so he'll have to go back to the office to find it. He apologizes, but says that no one is allowed to be in his office without an appointment. He also says that there's been a lot of commotion at the company, and that everyone is paranoid about what's going on. He adds that the company's president, Monsieur Lafontaine, has been in control of the company since the beginning of the year, so it's no big deal if something is going on with the "upper echelons" .
