About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a soliloquy in which the narrator laments the fact that he has lost his "hero" . He says that he wanted to be like his hero, but that he could not bear to be away from his beloved, and so he came to Japan. He tells the narrator that he and Aoi are going to be a couple and that he is sorry that he did not show up earlier. The narrator says that if he had not shown up earlier, he would have regretted his decision. He also says that Aoi is giving it all to her, and that there is a lot of digging to be done before they can get married. He asks the narrator if she radiates "zero sex appeal," and the narrator replies that she radiates nothing at all. He then turns to the narrator and asks him how he can believe that they are having an affair. He replies that they have not yet been able to get to the point of having sex, and he says that they should come home already.
