About This Chapter
The narrator tells us that he's feeling a little sick. He's going out with Kugayama, and he and his friend have been living together for a while now. He wants to know why he didn't tell him sooner. He also tells us about the obstacle course that's about to begin. The red team starts off first, followed by the white team. The narrator is shocked to see that the red team has already won the race. He tells the narrator that when he heard about the girl friend's death, he was afraid to run into the girl, so he kept running away from her. Then he went out with a girl friend, who died in a car accident, and then he ran out with another girl, who also died in the accident. Then, he met someone and fell in love with her. He doesn't know what to say now, but the narrator tells him that right now, he loves her, and that she's the first obstacle course he'd ever run. He asks the narrator if he could have gotten his face on the camera, and the narrator says that he wishes he could. He says that it's hard for him to believe that things are so good between them, but that they'll talk about it after they get home.
