Ten years have passed since the beginning of the novel, and we're back in the middle of the tournament in Yokohama, Japan. We're told that the women's division is the toughest division in all of martial arts, and that it's going to be decided by who wins the most fights. In this chapter, we learn that a girl named Kate grabbed a girl's jiu-jitsu belt as she was about to be tossed out of the competition, and she beat the girl by a tiny margin. We also learn that the girl is a purple belt, which means she's pretty good at fighting.
