About This Chapter
Before the second half of the play begins, Tamura and his friends are in a daze because of the ticket contest. Tamura tells his friends that he's going to convince his sister to go with him to the Owu train station. He's got a plan: he'll pretend to be her "boy friend" , and when she refuses to go, he will tell her that he already has a crush on her. He wants her to give him the ticket to the train station, but she refuses, saying that she doesn't want to give it to anyone who's "going to the hard-boiled route" . He tells her that if she refuses him, then he won't give up on her, and that's just "intimidation" and "bully." Tamura says that he has a boy friend, and he'd like to be his friend, but he can't tell his sister what to do with the ticket because he already knows that. He says that if they refuse him, he'm going to tell his friend to "get run over" by five cars, and then "give it a rest." He wants them to leave him alone and not to do anything to him. He also says that they should've started this fight from the get-go, and now they're "stabbed in the guts" by a bunch of "fiendish fiends" : "I'm just as expect, just like you like , just my hand slipped, and I smashed my handkerchief soaked inchloroform . just how desperate they are !" Tamura is convinced that they've been so greedy that they don't deserve to be friends with him.
