About This Chapter
Back in the present, the narrator tells us that he's in a bad financial situation. He needs a security deposit and a key to move into his new apartment. He's worried about what his ex-boyfriend will do to him, and he wants to make sure that he doesn't get into trouble. He wants to be sure that if he does something wrong, he'll be able to get out of it. He also wants to know what kind of person he is, and if he has any special skills that he needs to bring to the job market. The narrator says that he has no special skills, and that's why he'd rather have a job that pays him well than one that pays more than he deserves. He tells the narrator that he wants his whole body to be in the right place at the right time, so that when he gets back to school, he won't have to worry about what other students think of him. He asks the narrator about his relationship with Teta--she's helping him out, he says, and she's always looked out for him, even when he wasn't looking out for her. He says that Teta is helping him, too, and they can date if they want. Teta says that it looks like they've run out of things to do, so they're going to have to get up early in the morning to go to work.
