About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that the Governess is very vigilant about keeping her opponents at bay, but that she sometimes loses her awareness of her surroundings and becomes defensive. The Governess asks Kafka to take a tour of the house with her so that she can try something new. She tells him that she's going to change the channel of her music so that it's more cheerful, and that she even brought her own camera so that he can take a picture of her and her friends. She's excited that they're on a holiday, and says that she wants them all to "look at that bit . . look at that" . She says that this one is called "Hey" , and it means "I'm sorry , I'm just feeling a little bit sick." She tells Kafka that she thinks he'll last a long time, and he says that he's sorry that his head is hurting. He says that his sister is the type that everyone in the house would rather listen to than the teacher. He also says that the house seems not to do a lot of laundry. He goes on to say that his mother is super sick, and she'll be gone for a while. He asks if he can borrow some of the ancient Greek texts for her.
