About This Chapter
The doctor and the doctor's wife are having lunch together. The doctor tells the doctor that he's married and that he doesn't care if he gets sick because he likes the doctor so much. He's not mad at the doctor, he says, because the doctor has worked very hard to build a strong bond with the doctor. The two of them talk about the kiss they had the night before, and the kiss has made the doctor cry. The cat asks the doctor what's up, and he tells her that the kiss was totally harmless. He says that he didn't kiss her, and that she probably wouldn't have liked it either. He tells the cat that he knows he has a big heart, but that he sees himself "lined up" with all the other people in his life. He knows that he wants it all for himself, but he also knows that his new plans include him. He asks the cat not to say that he hates his wife, because she's "lined all hopes and dreams around" . He wants to know how he feels about his relationship with his sisters, because they're different from his own. He also asks if the doctor thinks that women can make "perfection falter" , because "they involve someone else." The cat says that women are so thick-skinned that they don't "even care what they puts you through . . do like cat, leave her be." The doctor agrees that women make "no sense," but he says that if the other person refused to be selfless for their own sake, he would have to accept that.
