About This Chapter
The next morning, the pirates are disappointed to learn that Callista is not on board the ship. They decide to stay on the island to help her. Callista's fever has gone, but she is still worried about her husband's health. The pirates decide to go to sleep, and Callista tells them that she will not be coming back to the ship any time soon. She says that she is going to give them her hodierna, which is a book about nature, to read. She tells them to lift her up so that she can read the book, and they do so. She asks them to try some figs, but they do not smile at her, and she says that they are not as good as the figs she has tasted before. She also tells them not to worry, as she will be back soon.
