About This Chapter
The next morning, Proteus wakes up to find that his ship has been captured by the pirates. He tells the crew that he is on the "poctor deck" , which means that the pirates have captured the ship of a man who is not on board. He also tells them that the ship is full of Italian blood, which is puberty for young men. He says that he does not want his past to spoil his future, because it is alive and suffers. He asks the doctor to take care of the wounds on the ship so that they can heal themselves. He then asks the captain to marry the woman on board so that the wounds can heal faster. The captain replies that the women are rash, but love cannot wait for someone to be in love with them. He goes on to say that he will be married one day, even though he is not yet a married man. He compares himself to a rat, who cannot eat the food of a pofferer.
