About This Chapter
Act 14 opens with a flashback to the beginning of the novel, in which Mingzijiang, the founder of the School of Sanzhen, tells his disciples that he will not kill them, but will erase their powers and memories. He says that they will become "ordinary humans" after he dies. He tells them to wait for his voice to come through, and then they can see what he is saying. He explains that he has a weak liver, and he has switched to vegetarian food. He also tells them that several people have been missing in the area lately, and that he dispatched some soldiers from the southern garrison to help them. The soldiers were originally supposed to attack the Baiyue people, but since they proved troublesome, they chose to attack nearby villages instead, killing several of his disciples. He asks if those villagers live or die, but he does not care if they are killed or not, as the cause of their death was not from being "sucked dry of life force." He asks how long it has been since they first met, and asks if he has changed at all. He has three masters, so he will need more than one gift from his master. He then asks his sister to come back after he quadruples the amount of gifts, and she says that she will, but she begs him to let her go.
