In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character, the old woman, who is now called the "Old Lady" because she is the personification of the Old World. We learn that she was born in 1648, and that she has been a demon queen for many years. The Old Lady tells us that she is in love with the old man, but that she does not want him to leave her. She tells him that he is the last of the old men to come to her rescue.
