About This Chapter
This chapter opens with a flashback to the beginning of the previous chapter, in which the protagonist, Uematsu, explains that he is now in the process of purging himself of all of his youthful memories. He tells the audience that he has come to the conclusion that his life is over, and that he will no longer be a part of it. He also tells them that the protagonist's memories of his youth are still alive in his brain, and he will be able to communicate with the protagonist in a way that he never was able to before. The protagonist, however, is not so sure. He feels that his memories of youth are gone and that the memories of the past are still with him. He wonders if the protagonist has been killed by a vampire, and the protagonist says that he does not want to be eaten by the vampire. He asks the protagonist if he wishes to live, and if he does, he will eat the protagonist. He then tells the protagonist that he would not mind eating him, as long as the vampire does not kill him first. He explains that the vampire's technique of purging his blood is a curse, which cuts through the idea of immortality. He says that the only way to break this curse is to "splash till splash damn it" . He adds that the blood of the vampire is not normal blood, but rather, it has been sucked by the protagonist and is therefore not normal in the sense that it is supposed to be. The two men discuss the possibility of breaking the curse, but the protagonist refuses to believe them, saying that he thinks his body is cursed, and they will have to talk with the vampire to find out what he is doing.
