About This Chapter
In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character, a young man who has just returned from a trip to India. We learn that he has returned to India because he is in love with a woman named Hetty. Hetty has recently moved into a new house in the city, and he has been spending a lot of time with her. The young man asks Hetty how she is doing, and Hetty tells him that she has been busy, but that she is enjoying the new life. She also tells the young man that she does not think much of him these days, and that he should let her go of him. She says that if he truly loves her, then she will let him go of her. She then tells him to wrap up her dinner and eat it the next day. He tells her that he is tired, so he is going to go to bed. He then tells her about Hetty's new house, and how Hetty found out that she had moved out of the city and gone looking for her. He says that he feels alone now, and thanks him for telling him about the new house. He asks her if she would like to become a novelist, and she says that she would.
