About This Chapter
In this chapter, we learn that Milady and her twin, Niklaus, are in the middle of a battle against the sleeping forest and the forest's fiercest enemy, the forest itself. Milady's twin, Konstantin, is also at war with the forest, and Milady is trying to catch up. The two of them have spent a great deal of time and energy training each other to fly, and now they're both flying at the same time. Konstantin tells Milady that he's learned to fly faster than anyone else in the world, because he has spent so much time training himself to fly. He compares this training to sandpaper, which he uses to smooth out each of his tricks into a perfect skill. He says that the real difference between them is that each of them has to work harder than the other to get to the point where they can fly. This is something that's been "imposed on myself" , he says, and it's something Milady doesn't understand. She's just following her own path, which is why Milady can't fly as fast as he can. Konstantin says that this isn't so much a problem for Milady as it is for the rest of the world. He points out that the only way to break this chain is to fly through the air, and that this is what Milady does.
