About This Chapter
"Farewell, fair cow" is the title of this short poem, written by a young man named nick. It is about a cow that has been killed in the town of lesside, a desert town in the south of France. The narrator tells us that he is happy to be rid of the cow, which he considers to be a "star attraction" at the " pearly gates" . The townspeople of the town are sad that the mayor has killed the cow. They want to replace him with a "local hero" , but they do not know what to do with him. They must pool all of their money and build a new town. They should close their houses and ask for government aid. The mayor is planning a vacation with their money. They need a "man of the future, a man of action, a hero" who will "cosere sameed real and /lemmy swenson." The narrator says that he would like to be the new sheriff. He wants to be president of the new town, and he wants a "muffin" with which to do so. He tells the townspeople that he has a better idea, and that he will kill him if he does not change his mind. He says that the town needs change, but that he used to use the same lipstick once, which made him feel better. The town needs a new sheriff, he says, and when he is elected, he will restore the pride of the people. He adds that the townspeople will be sent to hell for killing the cow and that they will send him to "hell." He says he will "fish" the cow when he becomes sheriff, and will restore pride to the people of the old town.
