About This Chapter
"Sunshine and roses" is the title of this chapter's soliloquy, which begins with the narrator's declaration that he'll never mention the name "Kretch" again. Instead, he's going to say "itch" . He's referring to the fact that Rose hates him, and that he pumped her with information about her brother, Scott. Apparently, he forgot that he even has a brother, and she's just going to do whatever he wants with him. The narrator is all, "what the hell?" , and then he launches into a rant about how Rose is preparing a mind-control "cocktail" , which is basically a sexual version of morphine. He says that she doesn't even want to have sex with him, but that she'll "do it for us, too," and that they have a "reservation" to kill her. He then goes on to say that he went to see a prostitute, who used to draw a "bj mouth" on him , so that he wouldn't be able to tell if the prostitute was a woman or a man. He also says that the prostitute used to be with a guy who was "with the sitter," which is a reference to Scott's sister, who is also a prostitute. He tells the narrator that the government is trying to get him back in for another mission, but he can't do anything about it, because the government won't give him a straight answer. So, he says, they're going to have to kill the prostitute, too. He wants to know where Rose was when she was "always like this," or if she was more of a hotel guest, or if there's more of her "amazing" sex stuff. He asks if he can go kill her, and the narrator says that he can, but then he realizes that it was Scott who wanted him killed, not the other way around. He realizes that he needs to get back on the mission, and he wants to kill Rose, too, so they can get married.
