About This Chapter
This scene is set in Kent, Ohio, in the summer of 1982. It's one of the most famous scenes in all of Shakespeare's plays, and it's also one of his most famous lines. In this scene, Kent complains to his brother, Victor, about the fact that he and his brother-in-law, Scott, are the only family in the world that doesn't have a bucket of "boo-hoo sauce" or "duck sauce" . He also complains about his aunt, who used to be a good friend to both of them, but who died when he was a child. He complains that his aunt was always kind to him, but that he's not allowed to talk about it with his brother because he is afraid of what he'll say if he does. He says that he wants to go home and die, but he can't because he has to talk to a "magician" who's been trying to "spell magic stuff" on him. He's afraid that the magician will come back and try to kill him. The magician says that they've been talking for four hours, and that they need to start talking again. Kent complains that they haven't had a chance to talk yet. He tells his brother that he ran into a customer of his at the local donut shop, who told him that Scott gave him a "face lift" , which is a fancy way of saying that he looks better than he actually is. Kent asks his brother what kind of "donut" he has, and he tells him that he has a bear claw, a frosted dinosaur, and
