It's the first day of the new semester, and the narrator is the first to arrive at the dormitory. He's excited to find out that he's going to be living with two new kinds of people: "pretty women" and "smart men" . The first guy to arrive is a guy named "Tang zhong" , who's a member of the psychology club at the university. He introduces himself as "Tang-zhong" and introduces his new roommate, "Li-Yu," who is also from the club. The two of them talk for a while, and then the narrator leaves to go pick up the other students. When he gets back to the dorm, he finds that his roommate has left, and that "liang-tao" has arrived too. He asks the secretary why there's no lower bunk in the room. The secretary says that it's because "this way of negotiating is outdated," and that's when the narrator realizes that "angry guy" isn't really a student at all.
