About This Chapter
When the wolf returns home, the father moans about how his daughter has been killed and how the moon forces are using airlocks to keep him and his troops out of the way. They're using "jamming signals" , which means they're firing through the airlock and killing the men inside. The father tells the wolf that his daughter is coming to kill him. The wolf tells the father that he can't kill his daughter on the moon because the oxygen would burn and the heat would kill the man inside. But the father says that he's not going to let his daughter kill him because he loves her. He says that if he lets her kill him, he'll die. He's got to do what he has to do to save his daughter's life. He asks the wolf to stop killing him, but the wolf says that the only reason he is there is to protect his daughter. They have a deal: if the wolf and his daughter die, she'll have to give birth to a son. But if they die, the wolf will have to kill the father. He doesn't want to abandon his post, he says, because this is his "base and i- hi . . daughter all right, let's 60 of me - let you !" . But then the father realizes that the wolf isn't done yet. He thinks that he might have killed 77 men and wounded 190, but that he didn't have enough time to kill all of them.
