In this chapter, we are introduced to a new character, a prostitute named eva, who has just been fired from her job as a prostitute at a brothel in New York City. Worried about her job prospects, she tries to find a way to leave the brothel, but she is interrupted by the arrival of another prostitute, the talking worm. The two of them discuss the contract they have with the other's employer, and eva tells eva that she will not accept the job if the other is not willing to accept it. Believing that the worm is trying to trick them into thinking that they are dead, they decide to trap the worm and make him appear to be a new person in order to get the job.
