About This Chapter
The chapter opens with a soliloquy by the Underground Man. He tells Susanoo that he's going to miss her company for the rest of the night. Susanoo is a shallow artist who doesn't understand the craft of killing people. She tied him to a machine and started carving him when he woke up. The Underground Man says that he still has a long way to go before he can find Susanoo and her family. He's not sure how to get there, but he thinks he can figure out a way to trace the trail of the machine's tracks. He thinks he might be able to figure out where they are, but that's just not possible. He says that this is as aggravating as the franks, because he didn't know that he had friends. He also says that when he was trapped underground, he was amazed at how little fresh air there was. He adds that he never thought he'd have friends, but now that he is underground, it's even worse. He wonders if he'll ever be friends again. David tries to take them all over to the gig, but they stop him in a secret room, where he keeps his journal. David says that Susanoo has either written an essay or been struggling with messages at the gig. They stop him, and he says that they're not sure if he can trust her. David and David decide that they need to explain what's up to Susanoo, and they decide to go look for her in the secret room. He gets a strange text from Susanoo saying that she found "a secret room" in her apartment. She says that there's "a whole lot of bas
