The Underground Man opens this chapter by saying that he's going to play a gig in the "wicked underground" . He wants to make sure that he doesn't fall in love with anyone. He asks the Underground Man if he can say that one more time, but he can't. He's not sure why, but it's hard to believe that he would say that. He says that he can sleep when he dies, but if he has to, he'd rather not do it this evening. He wonders if there's any way he could stand making all the people unhappy. He also asks if he could ask some advice about having a crush on someone, but there was no way that he could tell the people not to be happy. He then asks if baal is hiding with him. She was here when he came home on Saturday, and he thought he could talk to her down, but now he knows that she's hiding with the underground man. He decides to go find her and make her happy. Then he asks if they can make Casasandra shout at them again. She's always late at night, he says, and she likes to wander around. He tells us that he loves the underground so much that he wants to fight in it.
