About This Chapter
The future image is set in the future, in the year 1992. It is a lush and vibrant place, and the air is "imperfectly warm and inviting, but also cool, and refreshing." The air is the source of the magical power that the yokai and the fomodiers have harnessed to destroy the place. The two men who have come to break the bonds that give the place power are the next generation of the yoka, and they are called Conall and Fergus. They have been planning to do so for a long time, and now that they have arrived, they feel that the place is magical. They feel that they are the bridge between the two worlds, and when they look at the boy they see in the portal, the energy rushes up inside him, and he grasps at the strings. The energy is everywhere, he says, and this is the destiny of the girl they are looking for. He feels that he can use the magic of the place to slay the demons. He says that he has felt this before, but that it is "distant and murky cut-frame holy shiti" that is him. Conall tells him that the warriors have found them, and that they will buy them pints of beer the next time they return. He swears that he will not go any further. He is the son of Ibic the lost, the grandson of the king of Spain, who was killed in battle. He has been an "endless series of lies, secrets, and manipulations," he says. He tells his father that he is a "special seed," and that when it blooms, he will change.
