About This Chapter
The next morning, the two men discuss the business of the day. The first complains that he hasn't seen sakimura in a while, and the second complains about how tired he is. The two men agree that they haven't spoken to each other in a long time, and that they've both been working hard. The second complains that the business is doing well, and he's happy that it's doing so well. He tells saki that he'll be back in a few days, and then he tells mura that he needs to pay back some of the money he found in the trash. He's going to go to the tax collector's office and ask for the money, but he doesn't want to pay more than he owes. The tax collector says that they can't borrow money from anyone, but the man says that he won't be able to take a loan from anyone. He says that if they cut back on their expenses, they'll have to pay him back, too. The man is shocked that the man would want to take money from him, and wonders if he can take the lender's money. He asks if the man's hand is okay, and is told that he should scratch it. He then tells the man that he knows that he owes him money, and if it wasn't for his money, he would be all alone. He adds that he would have been all alone if he didn't have his money. The other day, he says, the higher-ups praised him for his hard work, and all the people praised him too, like he was on his way to becoming a successful businessman. He thinks that saki needs to work harder, too, to be proud of what he has accomplished so far. .
